Named for the protection it provided Indians and settlers years ago. Today it is still a wonderful place to relax and get lost in its beautiful tree canopies.
Located Latitude: 35.545441 / Longitude: -77.052788. You will find Washington inland of the ocean. Just through the Pamlico Sound and then up the Pamlico River. Washington is a wonderful small southern town has just enough of everything to make you feel right at home.
Located Latitude: 40.71463 / Longitude: -74.005806. You know where you can find this place. It is the center of anything and everything. Least that is what they want you to think. It takes a city like New York to appreciate the serenity and solitude of Ocracoke. Vice versa as well.

Originally a whaling community, but through the years has become a wonderful get away for me. Always love to visit in the fall when the rush of the summer is over.
